Conservation Careers

An international non-profit based in NYC, focused on wildlife conservation, aspired to answer the question “how do we get more underrepresented youth interested in conservation science careers?” Through their innovative Bridging the Gap program, the organization hosted a variety of workshops with 150 high school students at NYC zoos and aquaria to generate excitement about wildlife and the environment.

Our team helped ensure the organization provided an effective program by gathering input from students and parents. Using survey data, Hezel Associates was able to share feedback that led to positive program changes, such as one-on-one mentoring to group-based advising. In our final report, our team demonstrated that participating students and their parents gained knowledge about careers in conservation, with most students voicing enthusiasm to pursue STEM-focused education to get them into those jobs in the future.
