New Statewide Study Examines Link Between Customized Learning Plans and Student Achievement

South Carolina’s public schools concerns the
state’s Education Oversight Committee, whose
responsibility is to take steps to improve student
performance. As a key component of the state’s

External Review Team (ERT) Program has provided targeted
technical assistance to underperforming schools and

Higher Education Consortium Reports Findings of National
Benchmarking Intiative
Benchmarking for quality in distance learning remains
inconsistent across post-secondary institutions. Dr.
Richard T. Hezel, president of the education consulting
firm Hezel Associates, with the support of the National
University Telecommunications Network (NUTN) today
released the initial findings of the Benchmarking
for Quality in Distance Learning study. The study
found that 54 percent of participants use benchmarking
to measure their institutions' distance learning programs
against those at similar institutions. Among those
who report benchmarking, few similarities exist in
the types of data being benchmarked, or the types

CEO of Cisco Systems, Inc., with the Distinguished
Service Award 2005 at a ceremony in conjunction with

benchmarking study focused on quality in distance learning.
The research is being conducted to better define the
measurements of quality in distance learning and develop

scoring at the lowest level of proficiency on third-grade
reading tasks in 2004, a great demand for effective
